2019 Dole Humanitarian Award Reception

April 26 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The KU Department of Special Education, in collaboration with the Dole Institute of Politics, annually recognizes a Kansan or an individual that has impacted parents and families of individuals with disabilities across the state of Kansas, if not beyond. The Robert J. Dole Humanitarian Award is meant to honor individuals who have had a direct impact on parents and families.

The 2019 recipient of this award is Shelly London. Shelly completed both her undergraduate (journalism) and graduate (MBA) degrees at the University of Kansas. Since 2011, she has led national initiatives as the founding president of the Poses Family Foundation to support parents and families of individuals with learning and attention issues. Through her vision, the foundation launched Understood.org. Today, Understood.org supports over 2.5 million individuals each month with free innovative web-based materials that are altering the lives of countless learners. Under Shelly’s leadership, the Poses Family Foundation, with over 250 partners, has also created a national program that found thousands of competitively paid jobs for people with disabilities.

Join us to celebrate Shelly, a lifelong Jayhawk who has done incredible work for parents and families of individuals with disabilities to further support, empower, and facilitate advocacy for positive learner outcomes.

This event is free and open to the public, and hosted by the KU Department of Special Education. Learn more here.
