Tom Daschle served as Senate majority leader and Senate minority leader from 1994-2005. He also served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force.
Daschle served in both the House (1979-1987) and the Senate (1987-2005) as a Democrat from South Dakota where he was an advocate for quality education, healthcare, agriculture communities, veterans, and Native Americans. In his first year on the Hill, he was appointed to the Senate Finance Committee. In 1988, then-Senate Democratic Leader George Mitchell named Daschle the first-ever co-chair of the Democratic Policy Committee.
Currently, he is an advisor at Alston and Bird, a law firm, where he provides strategic advice on public policy issues. Daschle is also a visiting professor at Georgetown University, a Distinguished Fellow at American Progress, as well as a public speaker.
