A Statement on the passing of Senator Bob Dole from Director Audrey Coleman and Director Emeritus Bill Lacy

December 5, 2021 - News

Senator Bob Dole has left a tremendous legacy of service and leadership as a soldier, legislator, and statesman.

When I knew him in the last decade of his life, Senator Dole was both a towering figure and a bridge to our nation’s past, who urged Americans to work together for a better future. It was an honor to serve as his archivist and it’s a privilege to steward his historical legacy in perpetuity.

My thoughts are with Senator Elizabeth Dole, his daughter Robin, his extended family, and his friends and supporters in Kansas, across the country and the world.

We can all find comfort in sharing our “Bob Dole stories,” and in knowing his legacy lives on as he would have wished here at the Dole Institute of Politics.

Audrey Coleman
Director

Today, America lost one of her great sons. Bob Dole served the people of Kansas and of this country with integrity, honor, and humility. He was involved in virtually every major piece of legislation in the second half of the 20thCentury.

I had the distinct honor of knowing him for the last 35 years. He was a great man and a dear friend. I will miss him more than I could ever say.

My condolences to Senator Elizabeth Dole, his daughter Robin, and his many friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

As members of the extended Dole family, we will mourn our loss and then do what he would want us to do: continue his life’s work of bipartisanship and public service.

Bill Lacy
Director Emeritus
