Civic Engagement Essay Contest

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment

First Place: $250
Second Place: $150
Third Place: $100

Essay Question:

Kansas played an important role in the suffrage movement in 1919, and in the years leading up to that.

  • Briefly describe Kansas’ history in terms of women in politics, women’s civic engagement, and in terms of women’s suffrage, in particular.
  • What lessons can we learn from this legacy in order to increase women’s civic involvement and civic engagement today?

Essay must be submitting student’s original work


Must include a cover sheet that includes: full name, local address (street, city, state, zip, apartment number), phone number, and college year.
