Student Advisory Board

The Dole Institute Student Advisory Board (SAB) is a group of KU students united by common interests in community service, government, and politics. Together, we broaden our understanding of the U.S. and the world at large through discussions and events on all topics that intersect politics. We also support our local community, promote the importance of voting and being politically involved, and value the chance to speak our minds. In addition, we work with the Dole Institute staff to plan events and bring speakers we want to see at KU.

As an active member of the SAB, you’ll have the opportunity to…

  • Meet and network with special guests at the Institute’s programs
  • Socialize with fellow Jayhawks, get involved, and give back to the local community
  • Participate in exclusive receptions, dinners, and programs with special guests, Friends of the Dole Institute, and other students
  • Receive priority when applying for financial assistance for an internship and our student awards
  • Work at the Dole Institute in one of many specialized student positions

What We Do

There are many ways for you to get involved, learn, and connect with peers here at KU, across the country, and around the world. With programs spread throughout campus,

Pizza & Politics
At these informal events, students get an in-depth look at relevant issues with insight from policy experts and practitioners in a variety of fields, all while enjoying free pizza. Come late or leave early, just don’t miss out!

Discussion Groups
Hosted by the semester’s Dole Fellow, these mini-series programs focus on a specific topic or issue with insight from an expert in that field. While open to the public, these events are oriented toward KU students.

SAB Programming
Throughout the year, the SAB organizes programs exclusively for students, such as Partio and Brinner, and signature programs, such as the Annual SAB Program. While unique in their own way, these programs feature discussions on topics that are important to students and led by the SAB’s leadership.

Volunteer
SAB members have the opportunity to help in the planning and production of all Dole Institute events and programs. As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to greet guests, help field audience question-and-answer sessions, and deliver our signature student welcome. Sign up for volunteer opportunities by visiting the Membership hub.
