A Statement from the Dole Institute

September 12, 2025 - Uncategorized

In the wake of escalating politically-motivated violence, especially the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk at a dialogue-based event on a university campus, the Dole Institute reaffirms that politics should and must be an opportunity to connect across differences through civil and respectful dialogue – never through violence.

In this moment of understandable shock, anger and grief, we urge our students and community to come together—not to glorify violence or those who commit it, but to honor its victims by choosing a better path: listening, learning, and engaging one another with respect. That is the work that sustains our democracy, it’s the work we are committed to, and it has never been more urgent.

Today, and every day, it is essential that we turn towards one another.

The Dole Institute is committed to universal accessibility in all programs and resources. We are in the process of making all of our web projects fully accessible. An accessible version of the material represented on this site will be made available upon request. Please contact us at doleinstitute@ku.edu to request the material be made available in an accessible format, or for general assistance.
