Annual SAB Program

Each year, the SAB is at the helm of one of the Dole Institute’s evening programs. The SAB Program is typically a balanced discussion of a timely, hot-button issue that is important to students. SAB members, with the help of Dole Institute staff, carry out the functions of planning the event from development to promotion and execution. The SAB program is complete with a private pre-event dinner for SAB members to dine and talk with guest speakers.

The 2024 SAB Program: Kansas Speaks

State legislators Christina Haswood and Nick Hoheisel, and Kansas Speaks Contributor Dr. Alexandra Middlewood joined SAB Coordinator Allie Haggar for a discussion on the key insights from the 2023 Kansas Speaks Public Opinion Survey. Panelists addressed the surveys key issues, including marijuana legislation, Medicaid expansion, abortion rights, climate change, and more. Overall, the program explored crucial topics affecting young people and the wider community in Kansas—combining data-driven insights from the survey with real-world experiences and legislative perspectives.
